Historical Irises

Strictly speaking an iris should be 50 years or more old to be classed as an Historical!   These irises of yesterday are the grandparents of today's irises and are well worth growing in their own right. 

Their smaller, dainty flowers are very elegant and have a place in any iris collection.  

They are always very vigorous and healthy, often more so than the modern irises.  Many are of french origin dating back to the first half of the last century.
